Project Description
We built a housing needs and equity model for the City of Austin and Travis County to guide housing planning and investment decisions. The model identifies gaps in housing choices and access to opportunity at the neighborhood, city, and regional level. The City and County use the model to develop appropriate housing goals for a diverse set of planning areas—and to identify both the benefits and unintended outcomes of public investment.

Our analysis estimated that between 5% and 9% of the city’s non-student specific rentals were occupied by students.
