Project Description
Root completed a housing needs assessment for the City of San Marcos, which has experienced growing housing affordability challenges related regional growth and housing shortages coupled with market disruption from Texas State University. The study included a community and economic profile along with an extensive housing and affordability assessment, monthly calls with the client, and several presentations and facilitated discussions with the task force assembled to develop recommendations for addressing housing needs.

As part of the strategy implementation process, Root helped the City identify quantitative metrics to track progress on the Housing Task Force Strategies. Metrics included both programmatic outcomes (e.g., number of households assisted) as well as private market response (e.g., missing middle permits issued).
