Project Description

This study focuses on expanding citywide communication tools to address various levels of language access in service delivery. In addition to residents who speak a language other than English, our analysis includes residents needing language modifications to accommodate their disability. To inform the study, nearly 400 City staff completed a survey about their experiences in accommodating residents with communication barriers. We also conducted focus groups with City staff and administered a booth at the City’s Latino Fest, where we invited residents to participate in an exercise to identify where language barriers exist.
