Our approach to fair housing involves a broader assessment of how well residents of all backgrounds can access opportunity. We supplement HUD data with customized maps and data models identifying how economic opportunity could be improved.
The Root team has conducted over 70 fair housing studies since 2000, including 15 studies under the AFH framework (2015-2018). In addition to preparing AIs and AFHs, Root principals and senior staff have extensive experience with AI and AFH training curriculums and technical assistance. In 2015, Root principals provided HUD with guidance on the proposed analytical methods, mapping resources, and other requirements related to the new rule on the AFH. Root recently helped HUD develop a new fair housing training curriculum for the AI and has led national AFH training.
